1:Explain how weeds survive and spread and the impact of this on the establishment and growth of other plants.
2:Describe and apply methods to control weed growth and spread.
3:Demonstrate knowledge of HSNO Act and NZS 8409:2004 for the safe use of agrichemicals.
4Apply sustainable practices to weed plants, and their control.
Content
Physical characteristics of weeds; rhizomes, tubers, roots, or shoot, bulbs.
Weed adaptations, growth rates, seed production, dispersal, pesticide resistance.
Environmental effects and risks, detrimental effects.
Weed categories; annual, broadleaf.
Weed management, herbicides.
Preparation and application of agrichemicals.
HSNO purpose, principals, hazard classification, risk responsibility, emergency, disposal.
As specified in unit standard evidence requirements.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Teaching and learning methods will be face to face delivery including workshops, project based interactive tasks, with group sessions, tutorials, practical's on-site, and the creation of portfolios of evidence.

The weight of the overall assessment is equally distributed across learning outcomes.
The portfolio of evidence will demonstrate the achievement of the required knowledge, competencies and capabilities across all the learning outcomes.
Assessment in this module is mixed mode (both Achievement and Competency) based. To achieve a pass grade for the module the student must complete all pieces of assessment work achieving full competency in any competency based tasks and gain a mark of at least 50 overall for the achievement based assessments
