The purpose of this module is for the student to explore film history and film theory. The module will cover an overview of film history and explore theories of genre, auteur, semiotics and feminism as they apply to film. It will develop students' abilities to understand and analyse film. It will examine how meaning is created and constrained within film by both the spectator and director/producer.
