Prescription
The aim of this module is to refine students' knowledge of ensemble performance, culminating in the realisation of a performance at concert standard. Students will develop a substantial repertoire and demonstrate an enhanced degree of interpretation, independence and confidence as ensemble performers. Students will negotiate their own aims, objectives and repertoire for the ensemble project, and the criteria upon which the work will be assessed.

2.1 Understand the values, methodologies and strategies which inform current professional practice in a selected domain
-compare, analyse and evaluate selected texts/scores identifying conventions relevant to a specific contemporary practice
-analyse a selection of cllurrent styles/genres of music and identify the specific methods used in their production
-compare significant changes in methods of practice and strategies for production relevant to a specific contemporary practice

2.2 Acquire knowledge in designing a project brief that explores a specialist area of contemporary music performance
-develop a written project description which accounts for the aim, methodology and context of a performance

-successfully perform the tasks and criteria set out in the project brief
-plan and perform a repertoire consistent with current norms in performance

2.3 Demonstrate knowledge of techniques and their application to the performance environment within a professional context
-develop and implement ensemble performance techniques to a recital/concert
-evaluate and implement practice and rehearsal techniques

2.4 Understand the value of self-evaluation within the context of professional practice
-consider and reflect upon the relationship between an adopted process and the final product
-continuously self-evaluate performances independent of institutional assessment
-participate in self/peer critiques for on-going formative assessment
-critically consider, discuss and document self and peer performances for regular graded assessment

Assessment Criteria
Assignment 1 Project Synopsis (Background study, process and analysis)
-The project as determined and agreed between the tutor and the ensemble.

Assignment 2 The Concert Performance
The assignment will include all of the aspects of the performance assessment
-The performance will consist of a minimum of sixty minutes of music which is to be performed at an appropriate performance level.

Assignment 1 Project Synopsis (Background study, process and analysis) 20 percent

Assignment 2 The Concert Performance 80 percent


To pass this module, students must complete all assignments and accumulate an overall module mark of no less than 50 percent.
