Investigate the design requirements and inter-relationships between building components to develop workable construction solutions
Prepare of a range of assembly/component drawings for critical building components based on a construction brief
Content
May include, but not limited to, an appropriate selection from the following topics:
Investigation of inter-relationships: Structural components, materials, foundation and substructure, the envelope, mechanical systems. Design requirements for sustainability, durability, appearance, maintenance, practicality for intended use, general cost implications and water/weather tightness, concept of buildability, consent application information. Integration of information from specialist consultants.
Assembly & component drawings: range of views and building elements to include details for construction and assembly. Integration of information from specialist consultants. Cross-referencing to specifications/drawings. Components may include: windows, doors, structural details, external envelope junctions, services detail, penetrations, and mechanical drawings.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Learning activities for topics may typically include practical/workshop, case studies lectures, tutorials, field trips, group work, visiting specialists, computer simulations, web technologies, and self-directed learning.
Assessment Criteria
