Brian Squair, Director at Chow: Hill Architects Limited is an Architecture graduate of Wintec (1977-1980).
What have you been doing since graduating?
I completed my Wintec studies, got my first job within an Architecture Practice. I moved to Australia for 3 years to further my study whilst working part-time in a local practice to fund my studies.
On completion returned to NZ, I worked as a Freelance designer for a number of years, until taking up a role at Chow:Hill Architects in 2002.
What’s your current job and what does it involve?
I am currently a Director at Chow:Hill Architects where my role consists of Business Development; Front-end Design; Client Relationship Management and Business Management.
How has your study at Wintec helped you in your career so far?
My study at Wintec prepared me for employment within my chosen field. It also provided me with the confidence to pursue my studies and career further
What advice would you have for new graduates?
Never stop learning, either on the job or formally (Have the attitude “What do I need to learn?”. Take the opportunities to give something a ‘go’ and never be afraid to ask for assistance.
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
Having the chance to influence the culture of a company through leadership. In general, the highlights have always been doing successful projects and having grateful clients.
