Sarah Hickey – Academic Administrator, School of Engineering, Science, and Primary Industries
I applied for a job at Wintec in 2010 as it looked like a place where there is a lot of opportunity to move into different roles and further my career.
My role has lots of aspects to it and is quite different to other administrators especially with Engineering, Science and Primary Industries being one of the largest and diverse schools. I provide support to tutors, the Personal Assistant, and Head of School and most importantly I am the first point of contact with students. I sit on two EPGs (Employer Partnership Groups), WECA (Waikato Engineering Careers Association) Board and Programme Committee meetings as a secretary. I also have a lot to do with organising material such as handbooks, induction dates and the process of the enrolling in the beginning of the year.
My favourite part of the role is the event organising I do for the School. I have organised two ‘Get a Life Engineering Careers Days’, Civil Information Sessions and been involved in the organisation of the Schools activities in Huge Day Out and other Wintec events.
I like working at Wintec as it a friendly place and you do get to work with people outside of your School. I do believe Wintec looks after its staff by keeping them informed with what is going on in the organisation. I love the activities Wintec puts on for its staff, such as Bowling, Pub Quiz, and Awards night.
I really enjoy working at Wintec especially in my role as there is always a new challenge and every day I get to do something different.
