Your Development

We’re in the learning business - and that means we have an absolute commitment to the on-going professional development of our staff.

We encourage all our staff to upskill themselves so that we can offer Wintec students the best possible experience. Wintec staff are encouraged to plan on-going professional development each year through our performance appraisal cycle. Time and money is available to all staff to assist in their on-going development.

We offer a wide range of free internal work related activities, including tutor education programmes, management and leadership development, technology training, coaching and mentoring programmes, classroom observations and our annual staff development festival. In addition, all permanent Wintec staff are able to complete one Wintec paper per year and one postgraduate University of Waikato paper per year - free.

One-on-one support can be provided by Wintec’s Capability Development team and staff also have access to our onsite Student Learning Services to help with study skills. Of course, all staff can use Wintec’s extensive library. If our library doesn’t have the resource you’re looking for, they will make every effort to get it for you.

To help with study, Wintec offers discounted software for home PCs (conditions apply). Surplus PCs are also offered to staff at discounted prices when available. In some cases staff can also use professional development money towards the purchase of mobile devices such as iPads or smartphones.

For those who are research-focused and would like to use research to develop their profile, there’s flexibility with teaching and research time allocation, a flexible Wintec research fund for supporting and developing research in many fields, and a voucher scheme that provides for industry-based research. We have research leaders within our schools and centres and the research office that oversees all research processes and functions and promotes and arranges research collaboration between staff and industry partners or community groups.
