Māori and Pasifika
Tēna koutou, kia orana, bula vinaka, mālō e lelei, talofa lava, fakaalofa lahi atu, taloha ni, mauri, ia orana and warm Pasifika greetings.
Māori and Pasifika staff are represented across both the academic and corporate areas of Wintec, and this section outlines some of the Māori and Pasifika initiatives and support services which are available to both staff and students.
Wintec's Director Māori (Hera White) oversees Wintec's Māori strategy which includes our relationship with iwi and the Māori community, staff and student support and Wintec's response to treaty-based practice. The Director Māori and Kaumātua (Tame Pokaia) report directly to the Chief Executive.
Te Kete Kōnae
Te Kete Kōnae symbolises a bottomless repository or container that holds knowledge and skills that enable continuous learning and growth.
Te Kete Kōnae offers a central place where Māori and Pasifika students and staff can be part of a positive support environment based on whanaungatanga, inclusiveness and sharing. It is based on being a 'one-stop-shop' for academic and learning support, pastoral support, cultural support, counselling as well as information and advice for Māori and/or Pasifika students and staff at Wintec.
There is a study room that can be booked for wānanga, meetings and study groups.
We also provide links to other support services within Wintec eg Kaumātua, scholarships, kaiāwhina and peer tutoring assistance, as well as links with other Māori and Pasifika networks at Wintec and in the community. Also refer to: Māori at Wintec
