LO 1: Identify and apply knowledge of welding principles, procedures, and quality assurance under supervision.

LO2: Apply knowledge of health and safety when welding and thermal cutting.

LO 3: Weld materials in the down hand positions for general purpose use under supervision.
Content
Welding principles and practices:
- Basic distortion control
- Monitoring the condition and safety of tools and equipment
- Basic weld faults and correction
- Welding quality assurance (principles, procedures)

Welding health and safety:
- Immediate safety hazards and long term hazards.
- PPE
- Safe use of welding and cutting equipment.
- Confined space
- Fumes and chemicals

Weld Materials
- Down hand positions GMAW, GTAW and MMAW
- Hazards identification –MMAW, GMAW, and GTAW.

Assessment Criteria
This course is assessed using competency assessment. Aakonga must complete and submit all summative assessments in order to pass and receive credit for this course. The listed unit standards are optional and are not required to pass this course.
