Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple components.
Students need to provide evidence against all learning outcomes, and gain an overall mark of 50% to pass this module.
Students must meet all the clinical requirements, including evidence of a minimum of 125 hours clinical placement to be eligible to pass this module.
Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of midwifery partnership in relation to cultural responsiveness, Tuuranga Kaupapa and midwifery practice.
2. Apply knowledge, appropriate skills and communication in professional and competent midwifery practice within the normal childbirth experience.
3. Demonstrate professional accountability relating to midwifery practice.
4. Demonstrate reflective midwifery practice.
Content
• Application of knowledge, skills and communication in professional and competent midwifery practice within the normal childbirth experience.
• Principles of cultural safety and Tuuranga Kaupapa applied to midwifery practice
• Principles of midwifery partnership and the application to practice
• Demonstrate selected named midwifery practice skills –theory and practice
• Caring for a woman/waahine and newborn through the antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum periods
• Reflection on practice
• Clinical problem solving, using a holistic midwifery framework
• Prioritizing care and time management
• Diversity of midwifery practice and the complexities of decision-making and relationships in the different environments
• Professional accountability and application to midwifery practice
• Therapeutic and professional communication skills applied to midwifery practice
• Clinical documentation (including legal requirements) in midwifery practice
• Clinical placement (125 hours)
Teaching and Learning Strategy
May include: Project-based Learning; Flipped Classroom; Blended Learning; Work-integrated Learning; Inclusive Practices.
Methods may include workshops and practical classes, tutorials, case-based learning, inquiry-based learning, group activities & discussion, supported online learning, e-portfolio, practice simulation.
