- Describe contemporary principles and practices of adult learning and in relation to own adult teaching context.
- Describe adult learning in terms of the Aotearoa New Zealand context and relevant underpinning frameworks.
Content
- Contemporary principles and practices of adult learning (how adults learn) derived from neural pathways theory, behaviourism, cognitivism, social constructivism, experiential learning theory and from technology enhanced learning
- Foundations of learning design – purpose, learner profiles, inclusion and empowerment, learner-centred approach/strategies
- Building language, literacy, and numeracy
- Application to adult learning contexts and practices
- Te Ao Maori perspectives and approaches to adult learning
- Pacific perspectives and approaches to (adult) learning
- Adult learning in Aotearoa New Zealand: Te Tiriti o Waitangi in adult education for tangata whenua and tangata Tiriti
- Adult learning in terms of Aotearoa New Zealand context and underpinning frameworks that may include:
- Learning Progressions for Adult Literacy and Numeracy
- Tapatoru Professional Standards Framework (Tapatoru Ako Professional Practice Award)
- Te Whare Tapa Wha
- Te Tauaki Ako, Te Kaupapa Maori, Te Ranga (for Maori learners)
- Fonofale, Kakala, Founga Ako
- and other relevant frameworks
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Learning and teaching activities will employ a range of elements drawn from approved methods to align with the context of the learning (delivery mode, regional specific requirement, etc.) and any particular needs of the group of aakonga.

Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this course is competency-based. Aakonga must successfully complete all specified assessment items in order to pass this course.
